The Wooden USB Pen-Drive

If you’re in the market for a sleek and stylish USB drive, this one from Etsy would be a great choice.  It features a wooden body that comes in a sleek black.  Of course, if you’re the type that you’re very particular about the way things look, you can even contact the seller to get other materials used to create the drive.  Being a drive with so many options it’s going to cost you more than an average USB drive, but it’d look great to carry around.

The drive is available with 1 or 4GB of memory on the inside, which is a bit small (especially for the price).  So it’d have to be for someone that doesn’t do a whole lot that requires a lot of memory.  In the picture, the creator Fordos, used wood and silver, but they can also use other metals such as gold, titanium, bronze and so on.  To get the 4GB drive it’ll cost you only an extra $10 to the price.  For the 1GB version it will cost you $140 through Fordos on Etsy.

The Teddy Bear 4-Port USB Hub with Alarm Clock

This would be a great hub to travel with, that is if you’re into teddy bears.  I will probably never understand the trend with cuddly stuffed and teddy bear shaped hubs and USB drives.  It’s almost like they’re marketed at kids, but then not really.  Not many kids are old enough to need a hub, but are still willing to admit they love teddy bears, at least from what I can tell.  Well this hub not only gives you extra ports for your USB gadgetry, but it has a built-in alarm clock too.

With this, while you’re out and about you can be sure that you’ll have an alarm clock that you really trust as well as a hub.  The clock itself is powered by a AAA battery, so it doesn’t actually have to be plugged into your computer to keep running.  It has a grand total of four USB ports, one in each foot and then one in each arm.  They come in three colors, pink, blue and white.  You can pick it up through Gadget4all for $14.50 a piece.

XXI Century Sundial

I’m not certain if the wall clock has gone the way of the dinosaur as yet. I mean, most of us carry a clock around on a cellular phone anyway, or just look at the clock on the computer. Or if you are old-school, just look at your watch.

I don’t think the wall clock will ever go out of style. Just think about all the times where we have passed by the clock on the wall and just said “oh, is that really the time”? Not only that, there is something aesthetically nice about the wall clock.

Here is a fancy twist on the wall clock which mixes hi-tech with a time before tech. As you can see, there is a sundial look to this guy, but replaces the natural source of power of the sun with a laser.

This laser is mounted on a remote control servo driven by a micro controller that keeps the time. This particular XXI Century sundial is only a concept for now, but I think it is good enough to be marketed now for any wall, in any home.

I have no idea how much this would go for, but it had better come with detailed instructions for its installation. After all, if you are going to put Roman Numerals on your wall, they had better be properly mounted.

Taser Axon

Just yesterday, I was discussing the Sanwa Throat Microphone, a type of communication device that clips to the throat like a collar. I have recently discovered the Taser Axon, which works like the Sanwa in the way it clips to your head.

However, the Taser Axon is meant to be a recorder. It is designed to stay affixed to a cop’s head, so that footage will always be taken when an officer is on the beat.

This way, if there is any case against the officer, and it is a civilian’s word against the officer, the evidence will be on the Taser Axon to prove one person’s testimony in a trial.

My source did not say how much memory is on the Taser Axon, and I’m not certain how much would need to be on it to record the usual officer’s shift. I wonder how much would be of interest, either. I mean, do we really need footage of an officer waiting around in a patrol car, eating donuts?

I suppose that we might be looking at an era where every cop is under this type of surveillance. I would say that a long list of questionable actions by police officers in the past is enough to justify implementing this type of system.

Solomobi Cool758: Mobile Phone with Shaver

Some of you might remember when we covered Solomobi’s Cool8800C, a phone that has a very interesting way of folding. It would appear that the biggest Chinese mobile phone supplier has come up with something even more interesting: a phone that is an electric shaver.

Yes, someone actually realized how much electric shavers and cell phones have in common, and finally merged the two technologies together with the Cool758.

I believe that there is about a half-hour of shaving time on this guy, and about 2-3 hours worth of calling time (220-260 hours on standby). It also has dual SIM card slots, an FM radio, as well as other standard phone features.

Clearly, having a shaver on a phone is very much a non-standard feature. However, I haven’t heard how the user changes the blades out, or anything. Wouldn’t the hair get on the cell phone? Also, if the phone vibrates, is that because someone is calling you or did you leave the shaver on?

Let’s see the Apple iPhone develop an app for this shaving function. If you want to try this out, feel free to shell out about $112 for it. However, you should probably need to be in China to use it.

Mr I Spy Digital Camera Binoculars

This isn’t the first set of binoculars capable of taking digital photographs.  It is, however, one of the cheapest models I’ve seen.  Which might be a down side for serious picture takers, but for the casual photographer it’d be a great find.  For anyone from birdwatchers, kids, aspiring spies and even perverts with a non-photographic memory, this would be a great camera to have around.  It’s also slightly more inconspicuous, since other binoculars with a camera built-in sometimes have an extra pop up screen, making it more likely you could sneak these into a concert.

These 1.3MP binoculars run on 2 AAA batteries.  It also has 16MB of memory, which will get you 40-50 images in HI mode or 100-150 in LO mode.  It can take not only images, but video as well, sadly it’s video without sound though.  The HI mode mentioned before gives pictures in 1280 x 1024 pixels while LO mode gives 640 x 480 pixels.  You can purchase this for £29.95 or about $44 from Gadgets.co.uk.  If you don’t have the cash for it now, they allow you to wishlist it on Facebook, to give a not so subtle hint to someone else that you want it.

Bigfoot offers Killer Xeno PCI Express cards

Bigfoot is back with a couple more sequels to its Killer K1 Ethernet card - this time round, you get double the trouble with the Xeno Pro and Xeno Ultra PCI Express cards that will be powered by a new, more generalized Freescale processor. Apart from the obvious function of reducing network lag, it also makes room for the computer’s processor to handle other gaming tasks as it boasts hardware processing for selected dedicated VoIP clients in order to further reduce the system overhead from running voice chat simultaneously within a game. The standard Xeno Pro card will come with a 128MB buffer while the Xeno Ultra has double the amount at 256MB. The former will retail for $130 while the latter is going for $180, being released in April and May, respectively.

Cisco Acquires Pure Digital â€" makers of The Flip Pocket Camcorder

It’s said that in slowing economies, companies build value, not go on shopping sprees. So, when Cisco (makers of computer servers and routers of most Internet traffic) decided to pony up half a billion dollars for Pure Digital Corporation, the idea seems to run counter to conventional wisdom. Unless, Cisco is looking to expand their range of services to include the consumer market. And with Pure Digital enjoying a great 24 months with sales of pocket camcorders it can also reveal that Cisco believes that video will be a driving for on the Internet in the future.

The Flip is a pocket sized camcorder that one may want to use for capturing every day moments while out and about. Costing between $130 and $230, it can capture up to 60 minutes of even high definition video on it’s on board flash memory and transfer that video to a PC or even upload to YouTube with its jack-knife like USB plug. On board software can also allow the user to put together a video presentation without investing in any more costly editing software.

Speculation is ripe that Cisco may be looking to take The Flip further into internet connectivity by adding WiFi or even 4G wireless connectivity. This would be a boon as no other camcorder has this feature to date, although many digital still camera models have begun incorporating WiFi access.
