Portable Fireplace gives cool ambience
This glass and stainless steel fireplace, uses similar technology to chaffing dishes (only on steroids) by burning gelled ethanol - which has the added advantage of producing no smoke, ash or soot as it burns. But it does provide some very romantic atmospher thanks to its colorful flames. With no smoke or ash, thee Vidro is ideal for apartments who want to enjoy the ambience of a fireplace without having one. You don’t have to travel to really take advantage of this portable fireplace called the Vidro. But you do have to have a thick wallet to afford it. Cost hovers around $1,000. Ouch. | Turkey Canon cuts down roasting time
It looks like a midevil torture device, but the turkey canon will actually cut down on cooking time by heating from the inside as well as outside. Made out of stainless steel, the Turkey Canon is based on the old recipe called “beer can chicken” which steams the inside of the bird while the oven cooks the outside to a crispy golden brown. The design is fairly simple. The stainless steel tub jetting out from the base can be filled up with broth, juice, beer, or any other flavorful liquid which willl then turn to steam as it is heated. The turkey, or chicken fits over the pipe and elevates the bird above the pan so that convection heat can encircle the bird, making cooking time even shorter. You can still use a beer can for your chicken, but come Thanksgiving time, you may really wish you had the Turkey Canon. Cost is just under $30 from Chef’s Resource Hat Tip - D’Vice
| Help Lock is a safety mechanism for bathroom accidents
There are several different types of people that are safety concerns when it comes to them and being locked in a bathroom. Be it because they’re injured, young or elderly, we all have been or will be in a situation where a locked bathroom can become a safety concern. Granted you could stop locking the bathroom door in some cases, but some situations just can’t be predicted. Accidents within the home are bound to happen. Well with this door lock, you won’t have to worry about being either locked in or out. The lock comes with a timer that automatically comes on when the door is locked. Once that set time is passed, it will remind you to cancel the alarm. After 30 seconds, if there has been no answer, it will unlock the door, sound an alarm and dial an emergency number. The emergency number is one you program in yourself, so it could even be a loved on instead of the general 911. As of now this is still a concept design by Haishan Deng. | Pizza Vending Machine
Every once in a while, I hear about some weird device that doesnât sound like it would be a good idea, like a vending machine that can give out hot pizza. Iâm sure that you are all wondering how this can be. After all, pizza is really only good when it is fresh and hot, and most vending machines can only give you snack food like candy bars or anything else that doesnât have to be heated. Unless you are getting some popcorn or something else that can be microwaved. Yeah, the pizza vending machine doesnât seem like a good idea on the surface, but this one is actually designed to prepare fresh dough, shape it in the circle, and then add the sauce, cheese, and other toppings. You donât have to microwave it afterward, as the âLetâs Pizzaâ machine will cook it inside the machine itself. So how much does it cost? Try five dollars for some fresh pizza. Iâm willing to part with a five-dollar bill for this. Right now, the Letâs Pizza is a concept device from designer Claudio Torghele. Is this the beginning of a new way to market pizza? That depends how long it takes to cook. If it is more than 30 minutes, then I want my money back. Source
| Fingertip Mini USB Trackball
Some of you might recall at the end of 2007 when we reported on a tiny trackball mouse known as the Genius Traveler 350. Iâve recently found a Fingertip Mini USB Trackball that is very similar in design, but just a little smaller. As you can see, it is a square contraption with a few buttons here. It has to be one of the most smallest trackballs that I have ever seen, and Iâm wondering how something so small can work with a normal adult-sized thumb. The other buttons appear to be a scrolling button of some type, plus a left click button and a right click button. It looks like it has an extending USB cable, just like the Genius Traveler 350. Now it is the time for you the readers to chime in. I want to know whether or not you use one of these mini-trackball devices or if you would want to use one of these peripherals. Leave me a comment with your response. If you are one of the ones that wants one of these, then you should probably know that it is only available for Windows XP and Vista. You should be able to purchase it for about $20.48 at this particular site. Source
| Coolest Gadget of the Week Delay
I’m currently away on business and being somewhat clumsy, I managed to lose my laptop between the cab and hotel. This means there will be something of a delay publishing the winner of last week’s coolest gadget competition and also this week’s contest. So apologies but things should be back to normal next week.
| Logitec Pocket Wireless Router
The first time that I saw this pocket wireless router from Logitec, I thought my source had misspelled Logitech. From what I see, Logitec is completely different from the company who gave us the G13 Advanced Gaming Keyboard and most recently, a series of laptop coolers. The access point from an Asian company called Logitec may be the smallest of its type. It measures in at 62mm x 82mm x 19mm, and weighs in at about 55 grams. As you can see, it fits in the palm of your hand. The gadget is also compliant with the basic encryption standards including WPA2 (AES), WPA (TKIP), and WEP128/64. It looks like you wonât have to worry about people getting on your access point. So is this the beginning of an era where you donât have to depend on using some coffee shop or libraryâs access point when you go to a public place? I certainly hope so, because Iâm sort of tired of playing by their rules. If I could just keep an access point in my back pocket, I think that I would be just fine. Something tells me that it is going to be a little more complicated than that. Iâm still looking forward to the day when I can just open up my laptop and have instant access to the net. Source
| Webcam that disguises itself as a movie camera
Starring on your very own webcam isn’t nearly as exciting as being filmed by a movie camera and seeing your face on the silver screen. However, now you can at least make yourself feel slightly more important when you’re appearing for your adoring online fans. This webcam won’t make you any more famous than you already are, but it’s a fun design either way. Just set up a spotlight and you’ll have all the necessities to make your online filming debut. It’s made to resemble a professional movie camera, obviously. It can either be mounted on the tripod or can be clipped onto your monitor. Although it definitely looks a lot more cool sitting on its tripod. It connects by way of USB and measures 3â x 2â x 1â and then with the tripod 5.5â. Whether you have a PC or a Mac, you can use the video portion or take quick snapshots instead. You can pick it up for $40 from Fred Flare. | Stuff-Your-Stuff Theater Set hides projector screen
I’ve gone back and forth on whether or not to pick up a projector and ditch the flat panel TV. I have my reasons for not making the switch though, one being that it’s a hefty investment that I’m not willing to make at this particular point. One major perk, despite the price, is a projector can easily take up less space and look better. If it weren’t for the giant roll on the wall, when the screen is put away, there is really nothing that has to be left out at all times. That means that all technology can easily be hidden away, well with this shelf even the screen can stay concealed. This massive shelf from Pottery Barn gives you even more storage space for various items, while also giving a spot to hide the screen. When the screen is being used it rolls down to fill the entire frame of the shelf. To accommodate your tech toys even more nicely, there are four fixed shelves that have cutouts for cords. The espresso colored shelf used to be priced at $1,999. Thankfully it’s gone down in price but is still set at a very pricey $1,299.
