The Spoticam lamp disguised as security camera

    spoticam_lamp

It seems more and more devices are disguising themselves as other devices.  This at first glance appears to be a security camera, when in fact it’s a light.  It’d make for an interesting porch light and might make it less likely that someone will break in.  It might also make you feel important to have a security camera sitting firmly at your door.  It’d definitely make for a humorous light to sit at your desk.

This Spoticam was created by the Antrepo Design Industry.  The lamp can either sit on a table or be mounted to a wall.  It comes in two different color choices, one is pure white and the other is raw aluminum.  Sadly, this odd lamp isn’t exactly for sale right now.  There’s no word on if it will be or how you can find one.  They do make a point to mention the two different color choices they come in, which means they might have the intention of selling these at some point.  Just keep an eye out on the product page if you’re interested in picking one up.

Bugatti Espresso Machine gets you caffeine in style

    bugatti-coffee-machine-thumb-450x316

Most coffee makers have become so incredibly ordinary that they barely get noticed, except when you’re feeling a little deprived of your caffeine fix.  Some are a little more fancy than others, but as far as looks go they’re about as exciting as a microwave.  These Bugatti Coffee Machines won’t be able to blend in within any kitchen.  The colors featured on the coffee maker are as cheery as you’ll be after your first or second cup of coffee.

Even if the bright colors weren’t enough to make it stand out, the shape alone is plenty.  Although I’m sure the two colors seen here can be found somewhere, the only ones that can be found on Amazon are a nice chrome, red and black.  The machine has a 15-bar pump that allows for 1 or 2 cups of coffee at a time.  It is capable of using both ground coffee as well as pods.  It also has a steam wand for frothing milk or making cappuccino and tea.  It also has a temperature gauge, brass fittings, an integrated water tank and a cup warmer.  It also has a unique drop system that guarantees fresh water intake from the integrated tank.  You can purchase one for $1,300 on Amazon.

Halcyon Concept Car: I’ve seen the future, and it’s shaped like this

halycon-concept_pezqg_5965Picture the first cars that were ever assembled, such as the Model T and what not. They look very different than the cars than the cars of today, right? I suppose that automobile design has a certain (for lack of a better word) evolution to it.

So let’s hit the fast forward button to see what the shape of cars will be in the future. I’m not certain what you were thinking, but I never would have come up with this. Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying that designer Ralph Tayler-Webb’s Halcyon car is ugly, I’m just saying that I wouldn’t have gone with such an indescribable, almost amorphous, shape.

Tayler-Webb was apparently inspired by nature to create the Halcyon. He was inspired by the tranquility and silence of a glider flight, and realized that technology should blend in with nature, not stand out from it.

The Halcyon is designed to glide through landscapes rather than drive, and it is good for the planet in other ways. It is lightweight and fuel-efficient, with an electric motor constructed from porous aluminum.

In all honesty, I can’t help but think that cars will never look like this. However, I’m sure if you were to go back in time and show Henry Ford what his automobiles look like today, he would probably laugh at you.

Shapeways printer makes 3D models in Stainless Steel

scalednose-picker-by-community-member-maxsmoke-620x606You see that picture of the devil picking his nose? Believe it or not, it was not constructed by human hands.

I’m not saying that it was made with the hands of Angels and Demons, because hopefully they would make something better than that. No, it was made on Shapeways 3D fabrication service which allows “stainless steel printing”.

Of course, 3D printers are really nothing new. This is the first time one has been created that uses stainless steel instead of plastic. It manages to print metal objects layer upon layer, provided the proper shape is given with an 3D modeling program like CAD or CAM.

There is a lot of possibilities here. No more running to the hardware store to get screws, for example. I will digress with a personal example.

When I was in seventh grade, I was assigned by my Industrial Arts teacher to make a stainless steel sculpture of a whale. I had to go through a grueling process of carving it out of Styrofoam, burying it in dirt, and then the liquid metal was poured on it.

Sadly, the end result didn’t look like a whale at all, but a metal brick with boils. However, if I had this Shapeways 3D stainless steel printer, the only work would have been in the 3D modeling stage.

So Shapeways, let’s make certain that everyone has a 3D stainless steel printer. Because everyone needs something made that is made of metal.

Gemologist’s Diamond Authenticity Tester

gemologistLadies, if you’re thinking of your next gadget purchase, might we suggest the Gemologist’s Diamond Authenticity Tester to you? After all, which woman doesn’t like it when they receive a diamond ring, earring or necklace from their beloved? If your man’s salary doesn’t seem to add up despite him showering you will all these glitzy presents, you’d best be aware as to whether these tokens of “love” are authentic or not, and the Gemologist’s Diamond Authenticity Tester would be just the right thing to have.

This device instantly verifies the authenticity of a diamond and detects the presence of moissanite and cubic zirconia, the two most common diamond simulants. The handheld unit uses thermal and electrical conductivity testing–the same verification methods used by gemologists–to determine if a stone is a natural diamond or a counterfeit. The device exposes stones to thermal and electrical currents and their ability to conduct these currents reveals the true identity of the stone (genuine diamonds are only thermally conductive; cubic zirconia is neither thermally nor electrically conductive; moissanite conducts both heat and electricity). Simply place the tip of the device on the stone in question and LEDs illuminate instantly on the handle to show the composition of the stone. Simply rubbing the probe tip on copy or printer paper prior to each use will clean the sensor and ensure optimal results.

Powered by a trio of AAA batteries, this $299.95 device comes with a travel pouch. Guess using this is somewhat a Pandora’s Box - you might end up breaking up with him because of his lies when it comes to insisting those are real jewelry instead of fakes until you shove the results right in his face.
