Panasonic SC-BTX70 2.1 channel Blu-ray Disc home theater system

    Panasonic-SC-BTX70

Work is extremely demanding these days, and as the saying goes, “a man’s home is his castle” so why not pamper yourself whenever you’re back after a long, hard day at the office? Instead of investing in a spa system, why not keep that mind entertained with the latest blockbusters while your ears enjoy above average audio quality through the Panasonic SC-BTX70 2.1 channel Blu-ray Disc home theater system? This innovative setup will come in a chic design that will definitely complement your flat panel TV regardless of the brand (Panasonic folks will claim it works best with Panasonic VIERAs, of course), while you let your Blu-ray player keep you entertained.

Despite coming in a sleek and compact form factor, the SC-BTX70 is no slouch in terms of performance. It might be a 2.1 system, and yet Panasonic has thrown in enough technology to make sure this delivers realistic virtual 7.1 channel sound through a wide listening area. This is made possible thanks to Panasonic’s advanced proprietary surround technology that is able to pump out Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD virtual 7.1-channel surround sound. A couple of front speakers that feature a new top mounted speaker design that further expands the listening area, were specially built using rigid, low-density bamboo cones in order to achieve pure sound and crisp dialogue no matter what movie you’re viewing. The Kelton-type subwoofer will ensure robust, reverberating bass for heart-thumping moments, while the 96-kHz Surround Re-master function makes sure your CDs sound pristine.

Within its ultra slim main unit, the power sliding door will open to reveal a Blu-ray Disc player for all your high definition movie needs. No idea on whether this one will work with VUDU services in the future, but we won’t rule it out just yet. Other functions include a Universal Dock for iPod, an SD memory card slot, and a USB terminal. Expect the Panasonic SC-BTX70 2.1 channel Blu-ray Disc home theater system to be out sometime this month for a shade under a grand.

Review of Blue Microphone’s Eyeball

blue-micsI got a chance to a catch a sneak preview of Blue Microphone’s new line for 2009 at CES, and I was very pleased to try out the Eyeball.

The Eyeball is a specially designed camera that takes after the Snowflake with its spherically shaped microphone. Its base is a clip-shaped thing that rests atop a laptop easily, and serves as a stand in case the user wants to put it on any flat surface.

There is a video of me giving a review of the Eyeball while being filmed by the Eyeball. Yeah, that’s awkwardly worded, but just watch it, and it will make sense.

The Eyeball has a camera lens that will pop in and out at a touch. This will insure that the lens stays covered when you don’t want to be filmed. I believe that is important in an age when many programs turn on the webcam automatically.

The Eyeball is compatible with many programs including Skype, iChat, Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, AOL Instant Messenger, and Google Talk. It requires no special software for installing, and plugs right into a USB port.

You should be able to purchase the Eyeball from Blue Microphones for a little less than $140 on sites like Amazon.

    New Features for Google Voice

google-voice-logoIn another attempt by Google to make certain every user can go to one spot for all their mobile and Internet stuff, Google Voice just unveiled two new features.

The first is the ability to have your SMS messages forward to your email. I actually have this feature on my Spinvox account, but the less I can look at my mobile for messages, the better.

The second is the ability to to make your voicemail messages play on Gmail. So now your text and audio recordings will be accessible by computer. See instructions after the jump.

Here is how to set up the first new feature:

Login to your Google Voice account and click on the Settings link in the upper right hand corner. Once there, go to Voicemail & SMS, then check the box next to SMS Forwarding.

How to set up the second feature:

Login to your Gmail account and go to Settings. Once there look for Labs. Go ahead and click on that and then scroll down the list of available lab features until you see Google Voice player in mail. From there, go ahead and click Enable, then scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the Save Changes button.

Hopefully users will appreciate looking at just one screen, not a mobile phone and computer for their messages. That goes without saying, really.

    Recession Case from Case-Mate

      recession_case

This case is definitely for those of you out there that like to keep things nice and minimal while still giving your iPhone at least a little protection.  It also would work great for those of you that spent every last cent you owned on your precious new iPhone and seem to be running short on funds.  No matter what the reason, now you can own an extremely affordable iPhone case to keep your iPhone nice and safe.

Don’t worry, not only is the case affordable, it’s made out of 100% recycled cardboard.  It also won’t catch on fire, that is unless you light it on fire and of course will make you awesome according to case-mate.  It sadly has no screen protector, but it will last forever, that is as long as you don’t destroy it.  You can make the choice to purchase these individually or in bundles of 10, just in case you happen to get one or two wet you’d have back ups.  You can purchase them individually for $0.99 or 10 for $7.99.

Nirvana Bathtub has built-in mood lighting

      nirvana-bathtub_1_SJTQN_12

It used to be that a few candles were all someone needed to get a little mood lighting in the bath tub.  Now there are all kinds of gadgets meant to project LED stars onto the walls and ceiling to set the mood.  Well now you can go one step further to get yourself a luxurious bath that does the same.  Instead of having something floating along with you in the tub, the tub itself is what shines so brightly.  I suppose it would simplify things, plus there would be no risk of fire due to knocking over candles.

The bathtub doesn’t just feature bright sparkly lights, it also manages to use less water while still not sacrificing your own comfort.  It uses 60 percent less water than bathtubs featuring a similar sizing.  It does this by using shallow high-grade translucent acrylic shape.  To control the 360 LED lights there is a integrated system underneath the tub.  Within that control panel is also an electronic tap that will automatically fill and stop filling up your bathtub.  The Nirvana Bathtub won the Red Dot 2009 competition.  However, as of right now there isn’t a whole lot of info on purchasing, so it’s likely this is still in the design stages.

    Earphone MP3 Speaker

      headphonespeaker

If you have a thing for your Apple earbuds, now you can have a speaker that looks just like them.  That way you can always show your support for all things Apple, even if you are buying a non-Apple gadget to do that.  With this you can play your music out loud for friends or even for just you.  You can also broadcast your music in public places, which is always charming.

Of course that’s not saying that everyone purchasing this product would be one of those people that plays their music for all to hear during a 4 hour train ride.  Some of you might be the courteous types that try to keep your music to yourselves.  This speaker is 3 inches long and has a keyring attached to the cap.  To use it, just pop off the end holding the keyring and plug it into your MP3 player.  You can purchase the MP3 Earphone Speaker for $10.98 from Things You Never Knew Existed.

Philips SPM9800 Bluetooth mouse is wired

      philips-bt-mouse

No, we don’t mean wired as in being tapped. While most of us would think of a Bluetooth device as shedding its wire(s), the Philips SPM9800 takes a different route since it hides a USB cord right under. We guess this makes it useable even when it has run out of battery, and would be even better when it can be charged via USB when plugged in. The mouse itself will feature Philip’s proprietary 360°TouchControl technology that enables it to continue functioning in the air when there is an absence of surface. Expect to see the Philips SPM9800 arrive in selected European markets for approximately $80 a pop.

VUDU offers services on LG BD390 Blu-ray player

      lg-bd390-vudu

Blu-ray players are getting more and more commonplace these days as prices start to drop and the adoption rate goes up, but it still isn’t good enough to be on par with DVD’s explosion when that format was introduced many years ago. After all, the jump to full High Definition from DVD isn’t that remarkable compared to what DVD did better compared to the regular Video CD format. Well, the elimination of the rival HD DVD format did go some way in Blu-ray’s case over the past year, but we could see non-physical media take over Blu-ray disc sales in the near future if more and more agreements such as this is introduced – VUDU is now offering owners of LG’s BD390 Network Blu-ray Player the option to settle for their on-demand HD (1080p, Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 surround sound) movie service through the BD390’s menu user interface before September is over. To sweeten the deal, the VUDU service does not require a single cent in terms of monthly subscription fees – basically, it works on a pay-as-you-watch basis, regardless of whether you choose to rent or purchase the movie straight from the player without the need to fork out even more money for additional hardware.

This won’t be the first partnership announcement VUDU has with consumer electronics manufacturers as they have also tied in with other flat panel HDTVs in the past, and the LG BD390 partnership also won’t be the last, either. VUDU’s service already stands out from the crowd as it delivers the largest available HD movie library of instantly-viewable movies in 1080p with Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 surround sound to date in order to take advantage of your current home entertainment setup. According to Alain Rossmann, CEO of VUDU, “Our goal as a company is to offer the best possible HD movie service to the broadest possible audience. By adding the top-rated LG BD390 Blu-ray player to the lineup of VUDU-enabled products, we’ve made it easier than ever for customers to enjoy the VUDU experience.”

Interested? The BD390 with LG’s “NetCast Entertainment Access” feature will retail for $399, where you can then take advantage of VUDU connectivity later this month when it comes in the form of a free upgrade.
